About Onka Stompa

A Little history and information on the Onka Stompa event

Back in 2005 I started a competition for online users to get together for a bit of fun. In 2005 I had 37 attendees,in 2006 I had 58 attendees, 2007 saw 58 attendees again. After these 3 events growing larger in numbers gathering on public land we required a permit, which in turn required public liability insurance. With this in mind a sponsor supplied money for insurance and the event was opened up as an open event, only via word of mouth through the tackle shop, which saw numbers increase to 78. In this year I got The Childhood Cancer Association involved to raise a bit of money for a worthy cause and this is where things really started to grow.

Word got through the forum I’m involved with, the magazine I write for and the local paper. This saw the event have an attendance of around 180, with 162 registered entrants. This year the funds I raised for Childhood Cancer grew considerably with a figure of around $2900 for the day. With everyone attending having a great time word got around and I received more publicity and in 2010 attendance grew again, with around 270 attending with 250 registered entrants. Via donations (to enter), sausage sizzle and a couple of auctions 2010 saw $4780 raised on the day handed to The Childhood Cancer Association at the end of the competition during presentations. I was then invited to Government House to meet the Governor and his wife at a reception as I am in the top earners from private functions/ events, which was an interesting experience and unexpected.
